The KitchenAid brand is recognized as a top tier brand because of its high quality and high performance capabilities.
The KitchenAid stand mixers offer so many attachments, it can honestly be the only main piece of equipment in any kitchen.
The stand mixers now offer you everything from an ice cream maker attachment to a slew of homemade pasta makers, heated bowls, meat and grain grinders, the list goes on and on.

There are 4 main styles of the KitchenAid stand mixers to choose from. Each style offers a little something different whether it’s the size of the bowl or motor or if it is a tilt head model or a bowl lifting model.
I am going to walk you through what each model of the KitchenAid stand mixer offers, from the mini Artisan series to the commercial model.

The Artisan mini series style offers everything you would expect in the classic KitchenAid stand mixer but in a compact size. The Artisan minis have a tilt head design that holds a 3.5 qt bowl.

This classic KitchenAid stand mixer has a 59-point planetary mixing action that mixes, blends and kneads your ingredients at 59 separate points with each turn of the mixing attachment. This ensures that all of your ingredients are incorporated completely for all of your recipes.

KitchenAid Stand Mixers
KitchenAid Stand Mixer Buyer’s Guide
Purchasing a KitchenAid stand mixer is a big investment so choosing the perfect one to meet all of your needs is very important. Let’s go over a few things to consider before you make this large purchase.
What size stand mixer do you need?
The KitchenAid stand mixers come in sizes ranging from 3.5 qts (the artisan mini) up to 8 qts (the commercial). The 5 qt size is the most popular being that it runs right in the middle for size. The 5 qt is able to make large batches of 8 lbs of mashed potatoes, cookie doughs, bread doughs, it can knead enough dough for 2 loaves of bread.
The 3.5 qt artisan mini is perfect for making small batches of cookie doughs, enough dough for a loaf of bread and approximately 3 lbs of mashed potatoes. The 8qt commercial sized standing mixer is capable of mixing much larger batches of cookies, doughs and mashed potatoes.
Think about what it is that you plan on using your KitchenAid stand mixer for before purchasing so that you pick the perfect size to meet all of your needs.
What head style works best for you?
The tilt head style standing mixers make putting your ingredients into your bowl very easy when you can lift it and tilt it back. You have clear access to the mixing bowl even with your mixer attachments hooked in.
The lift style standing mixers don’t give you as clear of a space to add your ingredients compared to the tilt head. With the lift style you need to lower it when you want to add more ingredients and the mixing attachment stays attached. You could remove the mixing attachment but if you have already started mixing, it’s a pain to get dirty touching the mixer attachment to remove it.
Between the tilt head and bowl lifting designs of the KitchenAid stand mixers the bowl lifting design is more stable when mixing large batches of foods such as thick cookie doughs.
Keep in mind also, all the Artisan model stand mixers are only tilting head designs they do not come in the bowl lift designs.
How much power do you need?
The KitchenAid stand mixers come in 250 watts, 275 watts, 325 watts and 500 watts to power the motors. The more power watts the mixer offers the better it will handle thicker foods such as, doughs, cookie doughs, etc.
The 250 watt motor will work great for you if you are cooking or baking small batches of foods such as a 1/2 recipe of cookie dough. It can definitely handle mixing your foods, just in smaller batches.
If you are just planning on making a single batch of cookie dough or enough dough for 1-2 loaves of bread at a time a 275 watt motor will work just fine, the classic stand mixers typically have this size motor.
The 325 watt motor has the capability of very heavy foods in a larger capacity with ease, such as double batches of cookie doughs and larger batches of bread doughs.
The 500 watt motor, which comes with the commercial standing mixer is capable of very large batches of foods at one time. The commercial blender is also an 8 qt size so it needs a stronger motor to match the amount of foods it can hold in the mixing bowl.
What attachments do you need?
When choosing your KitchenAid stand mixer keep in mind to watch what attachments are included with the model you choose. You will find that they can come with different types of beaters and bowl designs. Typically you will get a whipping, mixing and dough hook attachments but sometimes they are different.
When choosing your standing mixer, if you choose the Artisan mini, keep in mind that there are not as many styles of bowls or beater attachments available to fit this model and they do run a bit expensive when you find one.
With all of the KitchenAid stand mixer styles you will have the capability to purchase attachments that attach to the power hubs of them. Keep in mind when purchasing the attachments how much power they pull from your stand mixer before purchasing, just because it can fit in the hub doesn’t mean it will have the power to run it.
The KitchenAid Stand Mixers come in many designs and colors to compliment any kitchen decor.
The different styles above offer you the ability to choose attachments such as a pasta spiralizer, meat grinder, pasta makers and more that will attach right into the power hub of all KitchenAid stand mixers.
Each KitchenAid stand mixer model is also sold with a specific bowl, glass, glass with measurements, steel or stainless brushed steel. You are also able to purchase replacement bowls that lock into the KitchenAid stand mixers so that you have a variety for your kitchen cooking needs.
There are glass bowls, glass bowls with measurements, stainless steel, brushed stainless steel and decorative ceramic bowls. When choosing a replacement bowl make sure that it is made to fit your model.

Hello Kimberly,
Excellent article. Very in depth review. I found it to be informative and have even learned a couple of things today about kitchenaid. I learned there is a 4.5qt version. I currently have the 5qt and find it bulky. A bit smaller would serve my needs for improved counter space. I wish I had seen this article before I purchased my 5qt.
If I may offer but a single suggestion to you. A table of contents would probably help with this article so readers can find information quickly. I typically look for one when I read longer reviews so I may find the information I am looking for quickly. Second to that. very good work putting this article together.
Michael
Hello Michael, and thank you for visiting Device Gourmet. Yes, I agree the smaller 4.5 qt is great if you are limited on counter space and it’s lighter.
Thank you for your suggestion I will absolutely take that into consideration!!
I absolutely love the kitchenAid Stand Mixer Artisan Design ones, they would look so nice in a classic kitchen and seem to do a good job as well. But they probably wouldn’t look well in a modern kitchen, what do you think?
I would go for one with a 500-watt motor because I use a bullet mixer right now to even mix frozen things like frozen mango pieces, and my regular mixer can’t handle that. But my bullet mixer is just too small for things with more volume. thanks for the reviews!
Hello Lizzy, thank you for visiting Device Gourmet! The KitchenAid stand mixers have replaceable bowls that come in beautiful ceramic colors and designs to blend them into even the modern kitchens. I have 2 of them and I love the look of them, I use them as serving bowls as well.
Absolutely, I’d go with a stronger motor as well because I use it for a lot of bread and cookie doughs which can be really thick. If only using for lighter ingredients the smaller motors work great for a lot of people as well.
These are a great review of the KitchenAid Stand Mixers. The content is insightful, and informative. I can really learn from this review. Even though the KitchenAid Stand Mixers are not selling in my country, if I decide to get one I’ll definitely use this review to decide. Thanks again for the informative review.
Thank you Madyibilg
